Remembering… Ronaldo becomes World Cup highest scorer
When you mention the name ‘Ronaldo’ today most people send their thoughts to a talented 24 year old Portuguese attacker who is known for moments or brilliance and the occasional moan. However those of us who are not caught up in ‘CR7′ mania and associate the name ‘Ronaldo’ with perhaps the greatest striker of all time will remember his extraordinary achievement at the World Cup in 2006.
For this was the moment that Ronaldo became the highest goal scorer in the history of the World Cup by notching up his 15th goal. An extraordinary achievement from an extraordinary player. His surpassing of Gerd Müller’s record has cemented O Fenômeno’s place in World Cup history; as if his performance in the 2002 World Cup was not enough.
Ronaldo is currently plying this trade with Corinthians and to some effect. Overcoming 3 career threatening knee injuries, personal and psychological problems and the occasional scandal is testament to the man himself.
Against Ghana he achieved a feat that one feels will stand for some time yet.
